This project has been incredibly interesting for me, offering opportunities to develop both my 3D skills and streamline the workflow. The client presented me with an intriguing idea: a 'chumak' (an ancient Ukrainian cargo carrier using a wagon pulled by oxen) embarks on a journey through ancient Ukraine. His route takes him through a Ukrainian village executed in a national style, which gradually transforms into a modern city. Ultimately, the wagon evolves into a branded truck, reflecting the company's signature style.
At the project's inception, we already had a stylized truck, setting the tone for the remaining elements. To enhance efficiency, I created three primary constructors: one for a stylized Ukrainian village, another for a modern city, and a third for plants. These served as the foundation for populating the planet with content. All characters and environments were purposefully designed for specific animations from the outset.
The animation aspect of the project proved to be particularly fascinating. Initially, my plan was to animate characters, clouds, planes, and storks using simple rotations, with the axis of rotation at the planet's center. However, noticeable jittering in the render prompted a shift to the Maya 'motion path' tool for animation.
The animation process commenced with creating sequences for the planet's rotation and transformation from an ancient to a modern version. Subsequently, character animations were developed to align seamlessly with this rotational transformation
